What We Still Don't Know About the Grail CF SL 7

I sort the parts bins on weekends and I like a blank line better than a bluff.

Plainly, above the fold: we have not verified the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025). Every fact we hold on this bike came off one cited sheet. Not one of them has a second, independent publisher agreeing. No bike in our fleet is fully verified yet, and this one is no exception. That does not make the facts wrong. It makes them derived, and derived is a rung below the bar we set for anything that could hurt you.

Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025) — Derived facts only. No second publisher on file.

What we do have on file

A good stack of it, actually. The drivetrain side is well described: shell, spindle, chain standard, freehub, rear speed count. The wheel side is described too, down to rim internal width and the frame's tyre ceiling. Read the table below as a list of things one publisher has told us, not as gospel.

What is missing, and why it matters

Look at the table again and notice the shape of the hole. There is no headset entry, upper or lower. There is no pedal thread entry. Those blanks are not oversights we are embarrassed about; they are the honest state of the file. When a requirement has nothing to match against on the bike side, the verdict comes back unknown, and unknown is an answer. It is never a quiet yes. We do not sell a part into an unknown.

Cane Creek 40-Series headset EC34/28.6 | EC34/30 (1-1/8" straight) — Verdict against the Grail: unknown.

The Cane Creek 40-Series headset EC34/28.6 | EC34/30 (1-1/8" straight) states exactly what it needs at the top cup and the bottom cup. Both of those are on our sheet for the part. Neither is on our sheet for the bike. So the pairing of that headset with the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025) is unknown. A headset cup is a steerer measurement, and steerer measurements sit on our safety-critical list. Even if a single source turned up tomorrow, we would still hold at unknown until a second, independent publisher agreed. That is the rule for anything holding your front end together.

A blank is honest. A confident wrong answer is the one thing we will not do.

The pedal question is the same shape

Odyssey Twisted PC pedals, 1/2" spindle — Verdict against the Grail: unknown.

The Odyssey Twisted PC pedals, 1/2" spindle name their thread precisely. Our file for the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025) does not record a pedal thread at all, so that pairing reads unknown as well. You may have a strong hunch about what a modern carbon gravel crank uses. So do we. A hunch is not a source, and we will not print one as a verdict.

What still stands, unverified bike or not

Universal parts do not care about any of this. A tool, a cage, bar tape, lube, a bottle: they carry no requirement, so there is nothing to match and nothing to hold back. The Crankbrothers M19 multi-tool fits the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025). The Lezyne Flow Cage bottle cage fits the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025). Both verdicts are verified, and they would still be verified if our file on the bike were completely empty.

Zones we would tighten first

Two more corners of this bike deserve a second publisher before we answer anything ambitious about them. Braking is described as hydraulic disc with Center Lock hubs, from one source. Rotor sizing is safety-critical, and rotor size is not recorded. The cockpit is worse off: clamp figures are simply absent, which puts stems, bars and seatposts out of reach for now.

The short version

  • The Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025) is not verified. Each fact we hold rests on a single cited sheet.
  • Headset and pedal thread are not recorded, so the Cane Creek 40-Series headset EC34/28.6 | EC34/30 (1-1/8" straight) and the Odyssey Twisted PC pedals, 1/2" spindle both read unknown against this bike.
  • Universal parts are unaffected: the Crankbrothers M19 multi-tool fits, the Lezyne Flow Cage bottle cage fits, both verified.
  • Rotor size and cockpit clamp figures are missing, which keeps those zones closed to fit answers.
  • A second independent publisher on the missing measurements is what moves an unknown to an answer.
If the bike is unverified, why publish anything at all?
Because derived facts are still useful and still cited. We tell you which rung each one sits on, and we withhold the verdicts that need the higher rung. Hiding the file would help nobody.
Does the Crankbrothers M19 multi-tool fit the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025)?
It fits. That verdict is verified. It carries no fit requirement, so there is nothing on the bike it needs to match.
Will the Cane Creek 40-Series headset EC34/28.6 | EC34/30 (1-1/8" straight) work on this bike?
Unknown. The part states its upper and lower cup requirements, but neither headset dimension is on file for the Grail. Headsets are safety-critical, so unknown stands until two independent sources agree.
Can I fit the Odyssey Twisted PC pedals, 1/2" spindle to it?
Unknown. No pedal thread is recorded for the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025), so there is nothing to compare the part's thread standard against.
What would change these answers?
A second independent publisher documenting the missing measurements: headset cups, pedal thread, rotor size, cockpit clamps. When that lands, the verdicts recompute on their own.
Can I just measure it myself and tell you?
Tell us anyway, and bring the bike by. But a reading from one bench is one source. We would log it and keep looking for the second.

That is the whole state of play as this issue goes out in twenty twenty-six. Two clean yeses, two honest unknowns, and a short list of measurements we are chasing. If you own this bike and something here reads wrong against your own frame, come argue with us at the bench. Corrections are how the file gets better.

More in the Journal

  • SRAM DUB bottom brackets, sorted by shell

Five SRAM DUB bottom brackets sit in the drawer. They all hand the crank the same spindle interface; what separates them is the frame shell they need. Here is each one by its numbers, plus the one projected verdict we have on file against a bike in the fleet.

  • The Cassette Shelf, Counted Cog by Cog

Five cassettes are on file in the archive: one nine-speed microSHIFT, one twelve-speed Shimano, and three SRAM eleven-speed options. This guide lays out the three numbers that separate them — freehub body, rear speeds, and the smallest rear derailleur capacity they demand — and says plainly which bike in the fleet they do and do not fit.

  • Why your 11-speed chain fits — and the 12-speed one does not

Chain compatibility comes down to one standard most boxes print as a speed count: the chain width. Here it is for the two KMC chains people ask about most, and what it means on an 11-speed and on a 12-speed bike from the fleet.

  • The Giant Escape 3, As Far As Our Paper Goes

A plain accounting of the Giant Escape 3 (2024): the measurements we have on file, the ones we do not, the three regions worth reading before you buy, and four listed parts with their projected verdicts.

  • Rear Wheel of the Giant Fathom 29 2: What Bolts On

A region guide to the rear wheel of the Giant Fathom 29 2 (2022): the cited frame and wheel facts we hold, the two Maxxis parts projected to fit, why each verdict lands where it does, and the measurements that are still missing from the file.

  • The Glory Advanced Is on File, Not Yet Verified

Every fact we hold on the Giant Glory Advanced (2025) comes from a single cited source. That is enough to answer some questions and not enough to answer others. Here is exactly which is which, and what would move a line from unknown to answered.

  • Setting Up a Rear Derailleur on the Bench at Home

A plain bench procedure for hanging, limiting, indexing and clutch-checking a rear derailleur at home, plus the three rear derailleurs the shop lists and how they read against the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025).

  • Swapping a Cassette at Home, Without Guesswork

A bench procedure for removing and installing a rear cassette, the spec rows that decide which cassette you can even buy, and the three cassette pages the shop lists — including why all three are projected not to fit the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025).

  • The e12 chain and the Grail: a clean match on the drivetrain

The KMC e12 e-bike chain, 12-speed fits the Canyon Grail CF SL 7 (2025). The chain standard on the bike's sheet matches the chain standard the part requires. Here is the reasoning, the rows behind it, and what happens when you bring an older chain to the same drivetrain.

  • The KMC X10, and the one thing it asks of your bike

The KMC X10 chain, 10-speed has a single requirement: a 10-speed drivetrain. We read the spec rows, then check it against the two bikes on file with the same chain standard — the Giant Fathom 29 2 (2022) and the Kona Sutra (2025). Both come back as fits, on derived facts.

  • The X9 and the Roam: one chain, one answer

The KMC X9 chain, 9-speed fits the Giant Roam 2 Disc (2021). The chain standard on the bike matches the chain standard the part asks for, and both facts are on file. Here is the reasoning, the spec rows behind it, and the chain that does not fit.

  • Rotor size is a safety question, not a taste

A bigger rotor brakes harder. It also loads the fork mount beyond what it was tested for when it exceeds the fork maximum. Here is why a rotor reads "unknown" on a single-sourced bike, "does not fit" when the interface is wrong, and "unknown — safety-critical" when the maximum is not on file.

  • The 1.85 mm spacer: the cassette that confuses everyone

An 8/9/10-speed cassette on an 11-speed road freehub: why there is a gap, why a 1.85 mm ring fills it, how the resolver treats that ring — and why the page can still say "unknown" after the freehub question is settled.

  • DUB: One Spindle, Four Shells

SRAM DUB is a crank spindle standard measured at 28.99 mm. Here is what that number does mechanically, which bottom brackets in our archive carry it, and why the shell in your frame — not the spindle — decides what you can buy.

  • What "unknown" means in this shop

A bike we have not verified stays on the floor with a sign on it, not in the back room. Here is what that sign says, with the Brompton C Line as the live example, and why we would rather lose the sale than guess.
